Baseball is still dead to me

I know I have been saying that baseball is dead to me since Oakland decided that the playoff and winning were just too much of a hassle for them, however this needs to be mentioned.

First off if you are not familiar with the latest Sammy Sosa story, Click here.

Sammy, Sammy, Sammy where should I start. I guess my feelings for Sammy started during the home run chase. America loved him, but he was gunning for my hero and one time favorite player, so did not join in the love fest. I managed to forget about Sammy, however, until the corked bat incident. Now I have never publicly commented on the incident but I feel forced to now. That was stupid. Whether he was intentionally using a corked bat (as I feel he was) or it was an accident (as he said) there is no reason to have an illegal bat in the dugout.

Now this comes out. Let me start by saying I know the playoff hunt was over for the cubs and that if he is hurt at all, Sammy is not playing that game. I have no problem with that. So he shows up 70 minutes before the game starts. I don't know when players are expected to arrive, but that seems really late. In fact I believe they have already taken the field for batting practice by then. 15 minutes after the starts he leaves never having put on a uniform. So the cubs fine him $87,400 and the story is over, right? Wrong. Now he is complaining the fine is too high. Now while I admit that seems high it is what he makes for playing one game. So basically he is not getting paid for a game that he couldn't even be bothered to hang around and watch. Now I have never complained that athletes are paid too much and I don’t think they are (ok, Rob Johnson was even if he made the NFL league minimum). But if they expect to be paid for a game they couldn't even hang around for while the fans have to pay money to get the honor of watching I think not only is he paid too much, but maybe it is time for him to find a different job. I hear Wendy's is hiring Sammy, but I wouldn’t try skipping work too often there.
